Fixin' Up the Vittles
JUNE 1985
by Mary Eccher page 2 of 7
Catfish stew, collard or turnip greens, fried chicken, baked ham in pastry, biscuits and jam and the pecan and sweet potato pies shown above are all favorites from the Southern kitchen.  In some circles, this type of "down home"  cooking is known as "soul food."  The biscuits and jam on the right are always a fresh, flaky treat.
Knead tiny bit of ochre Fimo into piece of transparent Fimo until a very pale gold color is obtained.  Form chicken parts, legs, breasts and wings aproximately 5/16 inches in diameter.  Don't worry about being an expert at forming parts as they will be coated and imperfections will not show.  Bake parts in oven at 250 degrees for 10 minutes.  Remove and let cool.  Place chicken parts in paper cup and using toothpick, drizzle a few drops of amber glass stain into cup and stir until parts are coated.  Immediately sprinkle some beige terrarium sand over parts and shake cup gently until all are evenly coated.  Pour chicken parts onto piece of aluminum foil and let dry. Arrange and glue onto platter or in basket.
