MATERIALS
White modelling compound (Sculpey
or Polyform)
Caramel Fimo
3/4 inch circle Kemper Cutter
Beige sand
Hyplar modelling paste
Fimo Lacquer
Miniature cake plate
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Knead together white modelling compound with a bit of caramel Fimo to obtain beige color.  Mix beige sand into this by pouring some sand on a piece of aluminum foil and alternately pressing compound onto sand and kneading it in.  Cake mixture is ready when compound feels gritty to the touch.  Roll out on flat surface till about 1/8 inches thick.  Cut two layers with 3/4 inch Kemper Cutter.  Roll out white modelling compound in same manner, but 1/16 inch thick and cut one layer with cutter for icing.  Stack layers and press them together firmly but gently.  Round edges of cake with fingertips.  Bake in oven at 250 degrees for 10 minutes.  Remove and while still warm, cut wedge out of cake with X-Acto knife (the size of two mini slices). With X-Acto knife blade tip, gently scrape layers inside cut-out until you have crumby, textured appearance.  Put cake on a piece of masking tape, sticky side up, and "ice" with Hyplar modelling paste.  Let icing dry overnight, then gloss icing with Fimo lacquer.  Glue on cake plate.
