Bratwurst/Sauerkraut
BRATWURST/SAUERKRAUT:
The word bratwurst comes from the Germans and means literally "frying sausage."  Bratwurst is usually made from ground veal, to which pork or beef may have been added, and is mildly spiced with salt, pepper, coriander, ginger and mustard.  It is typically served with sauerkraut, which is made easily in miniature using ultra-thin excelsior packing material.
For bratwurst, knead just a touch of ochre into transparent Fimo.  Then knead into this just enough brown terrarium sand to speckle the Fimo.  Roll a ball approximately 1/4 inch diameter, then shape this into bratwurst about 1/2 inch long and slightly curved.  Make as many as you need for your serving dish.  Bake as directed.  When cool, place bratwursts on sticky-side-up masking tape and paint unevenly with brown glass stain.
For sauerkraut, cut strips of excelsior into tiny pieces and place in a paper cup.  Squeeze a bit of 527 cement into cup and stir into excelsior until it is thoroughly coated.  Working quickly, transfer some of this mixture to your serving dish and arrange it as desired.  Add and arrange the bratwurst on the sauerkraut, pressing down gently with each addition.  Allow to dry overnight, then paint with Fimo matte lacquer.
