MARCHEPANE
Marzipan Fruit Platter

from December 1984
MARCHEPANE MATERIALS
Fimo - Red, yellow, green, orange, violet
& transparent
Aquarium sand (preferably in all Fimo colors. If not available, white sand can be used throughout)
Kemper cutter (5/16 inch flower)
Modelling tool
For marzipan fruits, a translucent look is needed.  Mix one part color into two parts transparent Fimo before molding fruits.  For example, when instructions call for red, use red that has been thoroughly needed into transparent.  For stems, wrap hobby wire with green or brown florist tape and cut with scissors to size.  It is easiest if you make all your fruits and holly leaves first, then bake them together in oven at 200 to 250 degrees for 10 minutes.
Apples (make 2): With red Fimo, roll a ball approximately 1/4 inch diameter between fingertips.  With modelling tool, make a slight indentation at top of apple.  With gentle pressure, shape with fingertips into desired apple.  Insert stem.
Hollyberries (make about 20): With orange Fimo, roll tiny berries approximately 1/32 inch diameter.
Oranges (make 2): With orange Fimo, roll a ball approximately 1/4 inch diameter between fingertips, then roll it around on perch scraper to give it textured skin.
Lemons (make 3): With yellow Fimo, roll a ball approximately 3/16 inch diameter, then roll it around on perch scraper to give it textured skin.  With fingertips, pinch tiny point on end of lemon.
Bananas (make 3): With yollow Fimo, roll a ball approximaterly 1/4 inch diameter.  On a flat surface, roll into banana shape with forefinger, tapering at both ends, one a little more than the other.  Curve top of banana slightly.
